Executing a good trial is one of the most effective ways to set your dish up for success on the CookUnity platform. The goal is to simulate production as closely as possible.
✅ Trials allow you to:
- Verify yields
- Fine-tune flavors
- Test plating
- Resolve sourcing or packaging challenges before launch
🧺 Ingredient Pick-Up
This always happens the day before the scheduled trial.
Example:
If the trial is scheduled for Tuesday, September 9th, ingredient pick-up should happen on Monday, September 8th.
🍳 On the Actual Trial Day
Meals are cooked following the Parsley recipe with support from the local ops team, following a flow similar to production.
📏 Scale Recipes
- Have your scaled recipe ready (Printed is recommended).
- Remember, this is only for the trial; during production, you will use the information on LPS.
- It’s key to follow recipes from Parsley exactly as written to ensure we can verify steps, yields, quantities, and ingredients.
⚠️ No shortcuts—this ensures accuracy for production, and fewer issues down the road when the meal goes live.
🍽 Prepare 5 Servings of Each Meal:
- 3 for local ops tasting and evaluation
- 1 for photography/documentation
-
1 plated directly with a Culinary Manager or Culinary Development Lead for accuracy review
📝 Confirm and Record
Gather all the key information to share with the local team (Culinary ops or Product developer, according to the market) and your recipe squad lead.
This will ensure that the recipes are updated post-trial with the correct information, quantities, and so on.
🔍 Check and Confirm:
- Ingredient behavior during preparation (does it hold well, overcook, separate, etc.)
- Final weights and yields for each sub-recipe.
- Garnishes, sauces, and plating details (quantities per sub-recipe/component and final net weight)
- Correct packaging and sauce cups
- Take home a portion and test how it holds up during the whole shelf life (5 days tops)
Take a meal tray photo—this will be your plating reference and guide the Content Team’s final photography.
💬 Documenting & Sharing Feedback
The Chef and the local team should share their feedback during and after the trial regarding:
- Yields
- Trims
- Flavor
- Plating
- Packaging
- Heating instructions
Once this is done, the local Ops or PD in charge will complete the CookUnity Trial Form (one form per recipe).
This ensures all feedback is captured and reviewed before moving forward.
📣 Additional Chef Notes
The chef can send notes about:
- Changes in yields, quantities, ingredients
- Packaging
- Any other relevant details
...to their Recipe Squad lead.
⏱ Reminder:
There is a 48-hour window after the trial form is completed (you’ll receive a copy via email of the results) to add any comments before proceeding with the recipe onboarding.
All of this information ensures the recipes are properly updated based on trial results, preventing issues once it launches.
