🏁 Overview
As CookUnity continues to grow, we’re refining how new recipes are tested and approved to ensure every dish is ready for success in production—and loved by customers.
This updated process brings clearer expectations, stronger cross-team collaboration, and a chef-first approach to how trials are run and evaluated.
📈 What’s Changing—and Why
Goals
- Set chefs up for success with transparent, consistent standards.
- Ensure every dish meets CookUnity’s quality expectations.
- Build a process that’s scalable and centered on chefs.
Benefits
- Stronger alignment between teams (Culinary, PD, Ops, Recipe Squad)
- Less rework and fewer launch delays
- Quicker path from trial to launch
- More consistent and high-quality outcomes
🔄 What Happens During a Trial?
1️⃣ Prepping Your Dish
- Your cart with all necessary ingredients will be ready one day in advance.
- You’ll prepare 5 portions of each new dish.
- At least one plate must be built and plated with a PD or Culinary Manager present.
Why this matters:
- Confirms build weights and plating accuracy.
- Ensures high-quality Parsley photos, which are used by the photoshoot team for the website.
- Promotes real-time alignment between chefs and the internal team.
2️⃣ Feedback Form & Next Steps
The trial feedback form is now owned and completed by PD or Culinary Managers, not chefs.
The form includes:
- Tasting notes + new operational metrics (for better evaluation of flavor and production readiness)
- Automatic email to the chef with:
- 📸 Meal photo
- ✅ Trial outcome (pass or retrial required)
- 📝 Trial notes and feedback
Chef Review Window:
- You’ll have 48 hours to respond if you’d like to challenge or clarify feedback.
- Just reply to the email—your Recipe Squad lead will handle it from there.
- If there’s no response within 48 hours, onboarding will move forward as planned.
- If you do respond with changes, the 48-hour window resets to allow for collaboration.
- Once that time passes without a follow-up, the dish proceeds to the next stage.
👨🍳 You’re Not Alone
This process is all about supporting you—the chef—while making trials more efficient and consistent.
